We often hear the question: what makes your golf carts on Sanibel and Captiva different? The answer is that they are street-legal, but what exactly does that mean?
A few years ago, a blonde woman, looking too cool and having too much fun, cruised down Casa Ybel Road in her golf cart. How does she do that? I wondered. And so began my fascination with street-legal golf carts. As it turns out, the woman in question, Lisa Cochrane, became a friend, and my fascination turned into Sanibel Carts.

All of our Carts are street-legal
What makes a golf cart street-legal? Under Florida law, a golf cart that meets certain safety requirements, including seatbelts, turn signals, headlights and mirrors, is classified as a low-speed vehicle permitted on any roadway in the state with a speed limit of 35 mph or less. All of the roads on Sanibel Island and Captiva have a speed limit of 35 mph or less, and that means that our Carts are allowed on all of our roads.
Beautiful Captiva is a cart-lover’s paradise. They even have an annual golf cart parade!
Customers who boated to Jensen’s Marina and rented a Sanibel Cart to travel around Captiva.
Our customers have stayed at many of the lovely resorts and homes on Captiva. We were particularly excited when a group came in by boat to rent one of our carts from Jensen’s Marina.
Golf carts of any kind are allowed on Captiva Island from South Seas until just before the bend on Captiva Drive after the Green Flash restaurant.

That sign, however, does not apply to our fleet of street-legal, electric-solar golf carts. As a result, our Carts may travel past the sign down Captiva Drive, through Santiva, and onto Sanibel Island.
