Our street-legal carts are Low Speed Vehicles (LSVs), a regulated category of motor vehicles under Federal and Florida Law. LSVs must comply with state requirements, including that they be registered, licensed, and insured. And on a sanctuary island like Sanibel and a resort destination like Captiva, special considerations apply. All our cart rentals are subject to a signed LSV Rental Agreement, which include the following Sanibel Carts Terms of Service.
All drivers and passengers in front seat must wear a seat belt. All passengers under 18 must wear a seat belt wherever they are seated.
Children 3 and younger must be secured in a federally approved child-restraint seat. Children 4 through 5 must be secured either by a federally approved child-restraint seat or a safety belt.
Children 12 years old or younger may not ride in rear-facing back bench unless accompanied by adult.
Please avoid driving on Sanibel-Captiva Road, where faster vehicular traffic can be unsafe.
Please pay attention to bicyclists and pedestrians in crosswalks.
All Florida traffic laws that apply to motor vehicles apply to our carts.
Carts may not be driven on beaches.
Carts may not be driven on bike paths or sidewalks.
Carts may not be driven on the Sanibel Causeway.
Carts may only be parked in legal parking spaces. Carts may not be parked along roadsides. Carts may not be parked in spaces reserved for Permits.
Parking violations will be charged back to the customer with additional administrative fee.
All drivers must be at least 21 years old. Violation of this requirement will result in immediate repossession of our cart.
Only the Renter and authorized Additional Drivers on the Rental Agreement may drive the cart.
All drivers must provide a valid U.S. driver’s license.
All drivers must provide proof of current automobile insurance.
All drivers must provide current cell phone numbers.
Remember: Not everyone is on vacation. Sanibel is a working, living community.
When a line of 5 or more vehicles is backed up behind your cart, please pull over to allow faster traffic to pass.
Turn signals do not cancel automatically with the steering wheel. Please check to make sure your signals are switched off when not in use.
Renter is responsible for all liability and damages that may result while operating our cart. Our fleet insurer requires that we collect the automobile insurance policy of the Renter and all authorized Additional Drivers. Renter’s and/or authorized Additional Drivers’ insurance is primary for limits of liability and personal injury protection coverage required by Florida Statutes SS.324.021 and 627.736.
When the Renter signs the rental agreement and renders payment, their use of the cart and that of any authorized Additional Drivers is included on our fleet rental insurance as secondary insurance coverage.
No drivers other than the Renter and authorized Additional Drivers are covered by our fleet rental insurance.
Renter is responsible for damage to carts. Cart must be returned in same condition as at time of rental.
Failure to return cart upon expiration of the rental period and failure to pay all amounts due (including costs for damage to the property or equipment) are evidence of abandonment or refusal to redeliver the property, punishable in accordance with Florida Statutes SS812.155.
Please store cart safely and securely.
Please remove keys from ignition and make sure headlights are turned off.
Excessive sand, mud, or debris observed upon final inspection may result in additional fee.
